Marcel Rijckaert was born on July 21, 1924, in Adegem, Belgium, and died at the age of 79 on May 10, 2001, in Ghent. He was a professional cyclist from 1944 to 1960. Rijckaert was a three-time Belgian champion and won the national title that same year, both as an amateur and as an independent rider. He rode for Raymond Impanis during his time at Mercier and ended his career in 1960. He later became known as Eddy Merckx’s mentor.
