(1992) Victory of Johan Capiot ahead of Peter De Clercq and Benjamin Van Itterbeeck.
This was once again a classic fair race from the good old days. The favorites from the nearly 130-strong peloton gave each other no quarter. In short, spectacle and suspense were the order of the day right up to the finish line in Nokere, where Johan Capiot proved the strongest of the 8-man leading group.
Capiot’s reaction: “They all wanted my skin. But I didn’t want to give in, and my competitors had clearly underestimated my strength. The sprint on Nokereberg was right up my alley. People, how sweet is the taste of this victory.”
