The race was held under a bright spring sun with massive public interest. As tradition dictates, the race got underway in the local circuits in Nokere. A leading group of 8 riders formed with a maximum lead of 3 minutes with 5 laps to go: Andy Capelle, J.M. Tessier, Guillaume Auger, Tom Stremersch, Mathew Hayman, Igor Abakoumov, Robert Sassone and Peter Van Agtmaal.

But the peloton caught up in the final lap under the leadership of Lotto and Quickstep. This was followed by an attack from Dave Bruylandts (Marlux). He was joined by Matthé Pronk, Pieter Vries, (BankGiroLoterij), Hendrik Van Dijck (Palmans) and Magnus Backstedt (fakta). Pronk (NED – Bankgiroloterij) proved to be the fastest in the sprint.

The mountain classification was won by Mathew Hayman.
