In March, Danilith Nokere Koerse welcomed no fewer than 1,000 enthusiastic cycling tourists to our annual cyclo. A sporting day, driven by a passion for cycling and a warm heart for a particularly good cause.
This year, we linked the cyclo to support for the work surrounding Princess Lara, a brave girl who for years was known as the “balloon girl”. Lara fought a courageous battle against leukemia, a battle she unfortunately could not win. But her story lives on, thanks to the dedication of her parents and friends.
With love and perseverance, they continue Lara’s mission: helping other children and families facing childhood cancer. Twice a year, Lara’s family brings toys to the pediatric hematology and oncology department of UZ Gent – the place where Lara fought for 15 months, but was also surrounded with the greatest care.
In addition, there is now also a signposted cycling route through the Flemish Ardennes: the Ronde van Lara. A ride that not only offers a sporting challenge, but also reflects on the strength of a child and the love of a family. More information about this can be found at www.rondevanlara.be.
To support this effort, Danilith Nokere Koerse donated a check of 1,000 euros – good for one euro per participant in the cyclo to this worthy cause.
Because behind every cyclist, there is sometimes a story. And this year, we all cycled, consciously and involved, for Lara.
